A federal push for a mining revival is underway in Texas, driven by the need for minerals and metals used in renewable energy, microchips, and military technology.
Major oil companies, including Chevron and Halliburton, have announced projects in East Texas to extract lithium for batteries and other rare elements. Exxon also has acreage across the border in Arkansas.
Authorities want to change the fact that the US doesn’t produce the minerals and metals needed for these technologies as quickly as possible.
EnergyX, a laboratory in Austin, TX, is also working on producing lithium for batteries to support sustainable alternative energy production.
