High Court Reserves Judgment on Matric Results Publication Dispute
The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has reserved judgment following a two-day hearing on the matter between the Information Regulator (IR) and the Department of Basic Education (DBE) regarding the publication of matric results.
The hearing took place after the IR and DBE presented their arguments before a full bench of the High Court, following the dismissal of an urgent application brought by the Regulator on 09 January 2025.
This application sought to compel the DBE to comply with an enforcement notice issued on 18 November 2024, which found that the DBE's publication of matric results was inconsistent with the provisions of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
