Google to Revive Shuttered Nuclear Power Plant
Google is partnering with NextEra Energy to reopen the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Iowa, which was closed in 2020.
The power plant will be used to power Google's data centers, as part of the company's efforts to add zero-carbon energy sources.
- The Duane Arnold Energy Center was originally designed to generate 601 megawatts of electricity.
- After renovation, the reactor is expected to produce an additional 14 megawatts.
Neither company disclosed financial terms of the deal.
The partnership aims to revive the nuclear power plant, which was damaged by a summer derecho in 2020.
