The British Medical Association (BMA) has condemned the Government's proposed 2.5% pay increase for doctors in 2026 as "indefensible".
The Department for Health and Social Care stated that this increase is feasible without compromising key health commitments.
Government offering 'neglect dressed up as restraint'
The BMA argues that, given the current RPI inflation rate of 4.5%, this offer represents a real-terms pay cut for doctors. Newly qualified doctors would see a mere 47p hourly pay rise, from £18.62 to £19.09.
Author's summary: BMA rejects Government's pay offer as inadequate.
