A new study led by Swansea University has revealed a potential treatment for certain autoimmune diseases by targeting a protein that regulates energy production in immune cells.
Autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis or type 1 diabetes, are driven by immune cells called T-cells. Normally, T-cells protect the body from infections, but in autoimmunity, they mistakenly attack the body’s own tissues.
