Mohammad Nawaz’s explosive 59-run innings, combined with half-centuries from Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Agha, propelled Pakistan to a competitive total in the second ODI of the three-match series at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan posted 269/9 in their 50 overs, helped by a strong finish. However, their innings began poorly as South Africa’s left-arm pacer Nandre Burger quickly dismantled the top order, dismissing Fakhar Zaman for a duck, Babar Azam for 11, and Mohammad Rizwan for 4.
At 22/3 in just 4.5 overs, Salman Ali Agha joined Saim Ayub, and together they steadied the innings with a resilient 92-run partnership for the fourth wicket. This crucial stand was ended by Corbin Bosch in the 25th over when Saim was caught and bowled. Ayub scored 53 runs off 66 balls, including five fours and one six.
Pakistan then lost Hussain Talat for 10 runs to Nqabayomzi Peter in the 30th over. Later, Agha was part of another important partnership, adding 59 runs for the sixth wicket with Mohammad Nawaz, before Bosch dismissed Agha in the 41st over.
Salman Ali Agha was the top scorer for Pakistan, playing a gutsy 69 off 105 deliveries with five fours.
The team’s late surge helped Pakistan set a challenging target for South Africa.
The partnership efforts and late batting acceleration proved vital in setting a strong platform for Pakistan.
"Pakistan finished at 269/9 in the allotted 50 overs, courtesy of a late onslaught."
