Varun Chakaravarthy claimed the prized wicket of Glenn Maxwell during the fourth T20I match between India and Australia at Carrara Oval in Queensland on Thursday, November 6. The leg-spinner dismissed Maxwell for just 2 runs, leaving Australia reeling at 103/6.
The wicket fell in the 15th over of Australia's run chase when Varun bowled a googly. Maxwell, the right-handed batter, gave himself room to play the ball towards the offside but missed completely. The ball struck the top of the off-stump before being caught by the wicketkeeper.
India maintained control with a clinical bowling display. At the time of reporting, Australia was 116/8 after 17 overs, with Ben Dwarshuis and Nathan Ellis at the crease. Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, and Washington Sundar each took two wickets.
Besides Maxwell, Dube also removed Tim David, who scored 14 off nine balls.
Batting first, India posted a total of 167/8 in their 20 overs. Vice-captain Shubman Gill was the top scorer with 46 runs off 39 balls, including one six and four boundaries. Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, and captain Suryakumar Yadav contributed significant 20s, while Axar Patel finished strongly with an unbeaten 21 off 11 balls.
“The clinical bowling helped India remain on top against Australia in this crucial match.”
