State-NGO Collaboration Expands Protection for Patagonia's Biodiversity Hotspot
In the southern Argentinian province of Chubut, in the pristine region of Patagonia Azul, arid grasslands give way to steep cliffs, rocky beaches, and dense kelp forests, creating a rich and biodiverse habitat.
This habitat is home to a variety of megafauna, including humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae), sei whales (Balaenoptera borealis), and South American sea lions (Otaria flavescens), which visit the area for food and breeding.
