Saving Forgotten Voices in Stone: Armenian Epigraphic Heritage Across India

A new international initiative aims to preserve the Armenian inscriptions in India's churches and cemeteries.

The project, "Endangered Armenian Epigraphic Heritage," launched under the British Library's Endangered Archives Program (EAP) in September 2025, focuses on preserving these inscriptions in Madras, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.

The initiative brings together scholars and cultural advocates, including Dr. Hamest Tamrazyan, Professor Gayane Hovhannisyan, and Michael Stephan.

The project preserves one of the least-known yet most remarkable chapters of India's multicultural past.

The team's efforts will help safeguard the Armenian epigraphic heritage in India.
