Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, a 24-year-old Algerian national, was accidentally released from HMP Wandsworth in south London on 29 October 2025.
He was re-arrested in Finsbury Park, north London, at 11:30 am on 7 November 2025. Sky News captured the moment of his detention. Before the arrest, Kaddour-Cherif claimed to be someone else when approached by journalists.
Officers confirmed his identity due to a “distinctive wonky nose.”
“One of the officers said Kaddour-Cherif had been identified as the missing prisoner because he had a 'distinctive wonky nose.’”
During the arrest, Kaddour-Cherif was seen shouting to bystanders. Police compared his image on a phone to the man they apprehended to ensure correct identification.
The mistaken release and swift re-arrest of Kaddour-Cherif highlight critical lapses in prison security and identification procedures.
