Environment Canada has canceled the fog advisory previously issued for Rocky View County, including the regions near Airdrie and Crossfield. Earlier Friday morning, the agency warned of near-zero visibility conditions and the possibility of freezing rain during the morning commute.
Motorists were advised to exercise caution, reduce speed, use headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles due to potentially hazardous travel conditions. By 5 a.m., poor visibility was reported along Highway 2 between Calgary’s city limits and north of the Highway 2A junction, as well as on Highway 2A between Highway 72 and Township Road 292.
Aside from fog-affected areas, road surfaces were generally bare and dry.
Environment Canada reports that the fog has cleared. Snow showers were expected to taper off by noon, with a 40% chance of scattered flurries in the afternoon. Temperatures are predicted to drop to zero degrees with a morning wind chill near –7.
Environment Canada advised: “Travel could be hazardous in some locations. Motorists are urged to slow down, turn on headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles.”
Environment Canada’s timely update helps motorists prepare for changing visibility and weather conditions in the Airdrie–Crossfield region.
