Punjab will officially participate in the COP30 Conference on climate change as a full delegate for the first time, rather than merely observing. The announcement was made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif during a brief stop in London en route to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change event in Brazil.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Punjab's flagship environmental projects would be showcased at the global forum. She described Suthra Punjab as "one of the world's most organised waste management programmes."
Additionally, the Punjab government has launched several e-mobility initiatives, including electric buses and bikes throughout the province.
"Our transport system is gradually shifting to green energy," the Chief Minister explained.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif also emphasized notable advancements in tourism, wildlife conservation, and environmental protection within Punjab. She noted the global community's recognition of the province's efforts to reduce smog.
When asked about her leadership, the Chief Minister referred to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as her mentor and stated she has faced no challenges in her role. She attributed the government's success to teamwork.
"We are working as a team-oriented government and this spirit of collaboration is being appreciated by the people across Punjab," she said.
In local conservation efforts, the Punjab Forest Department replanted a 50-year-old banyan tree that had been uprooted by strong winds near Haveli Cheetu Wali in Kahna.
Summary: Punjab is strengthening its global environmental role by actively participating in COP30 and promoting successful local initiatives in waste management, green transport, and conservation.
