Indian all-rounder Axar Patel reflected on improving his shot selection by overcoming past mistakes, which played a key role in India's T20I win against Australia in Carrara.
Axar scored 21 runs off 11 balls, including a crucial four and six in the last over bowled by Marcus Stoinis. His contribution helped India surpass the 160-run mark, finishing at 167. Australia fell short by 48 runs, giving India an unassailable 2-1 lead in the five-match series after the first game was washed out.
"I have learnt from my past mistake of letting the size of boundaries dictate my shot selection," Axar said, explaining how he targeted the longer sides during the match.
"The side boundaries were big but I thought if I could hold my shape and watch the ball, I could clear them," he added.
With wickets falling rapidly, Axar understood the challenge and took guidance from the dressing room. He aimed to take the innings to the last over, as there were no batsmen left to follow.
"The message I got from the dressing room was to take it to the last over because there weren't any batsmen after me. So I thought I would take a chance in the last over," Axar said in an interview posted by BCCI.
