Audible unveiled “The Pillars,” a 15,000-square-foot experiential retail and community space located in Newark’s Arts & Education District at 33 Washington St. The launch event in October attracted a lively crowd, reflecting strong local enthusiasm.
The grand opening in September featured speeches by key figures, including Mayor Ras Baraka, Audible CEO Bob Carrigan, Senate Majority Leader Teresa Ruiz of the 29th District, and local business owners occupying three of the four retail spaces at The Pillars.
The renovated ground-floor area serves as a neighborhood anchor designed to stimulate local business growth, attract visitors, and foster community connection.
“The Pillars marks Audible’s most ambitious investment yet in Newark’s future — and the largest philanthropic contribution in the company’s history,” said CEO Bob Carrigan.
This is Audible's first major investment in Newark approved by Carrigan since he became CEO in 2019, succeeding founder Don Katz.
“The energy at the late morning event was clear from the gaggle gathered, the smiling faces and the enthusiastic response from the crowd at The Pillars.”
The launch reflects Audible’s commitment to Newark’s ongoing development through meaningful local investments.
