An urgent recall has been announced for three tomato-based pasta sauces amid fears they may contain the dangerous bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which causes potentially fatal food poisoning.
First and Last Bakery, LLC has recalled three popular pasta sauces due to the risk posed by Clostridium botulinum. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revealed that these products were produced without an approved safety schedule, meaning the manufacturing process was not properly reviewed to prevent bacterial contamination, according to the Independent.
The sauces were distributed to retailers in Connecticut and Massachusetts, including Big Y, starting from September 22, 2025. All jars have a use-by date of September 26, 2025, as reported by the Daily Record.
"Shoppers have been issued a stark warning that consuming certain jars of tomato sauce could prove fatal, posing a serious health risk."
Though no illnesses have been reported yet, health officials emphasize the severity of botulism. Consumers who purchased these sauces are strongly advised to return them to their point of sale for a full refund.
The recall aims to prevent cases of botulism from unsafe tomato sauces caused by inadequate production processes, urging customers to avoid consumption and seek refunds promptly.
