Penn State Men's Hockey Players Receive National Honors

Two Penn State Nittany Lions, forwards Gavin McKenna and JJ Wiebusch, have received significant accolades for their performances in October, as announced by the team.

Rookie of the Month: Gavin McKenna

McKenna was named the Hockey Commissioners Association's Rookie of the Month. He ranks eighth nationally in points with 13, leading all Big Ten rookies and sharing the top spot nationally. His 10 assists place him fourth in the country and first among freshmen. McKenna is currently enjoying a four-game point streak.

Co-Forward of the Month: JJ Wiebusch

Wiebusch earned the title of Co-Forward of the Month alongside Max Plante from Minnesota-Duluth. He is second in the nation in scoring with 18 points. Wiebusch has scored six power-play goals, tying him for third all-time in Penn State's program history, nearing teammate Aiden Fink's record by just two goals. He was also recently selected for the U.S. Collegiate Selects Team for the 2025 Spengler Cup.
