China’s aluminum cable exports surge 42% YoY in Jan–Oct 2025

Export Growth Overview

China's aluminum wire and cable exports surged by 42% year-on-year from January to October 2025, positioning the total shipment to likely exceed 250,000 metric tons for the full year. This robust growth reflects the expanding global demand and China's increased production capacity in the sector.

Monthly Export Highlights

In August 2025, exports reached 22,300 metric tons, marking a 26.35% increase compared to the previous month and a 69% rise compared to August 2024. Similarly, September 2025 exports climbed further to 23,000 metric tons, showing a 3.1% month-on-month increase and an impressive 145% year-on-year growth. By October 2025, the export momentum continued steadily upward.

Key Drivers of Growth

The surge in exports is driven by strong overseas demand, especially in power grid and infrastructure projects globally. Additionally, domestic manufacturers ramped up production following post-holiday recoveries, while the cost advantages of aluminum over copper, combined with its suitability for electrical applications, fueled this upward trend. Emerging markets in Africa and South America also contributed significantly to export growth.

Product Composition

The majority of exported products include steel-core aluminum stranded wire and aluminum stranded wire. For August 2025, steel-core aluminum stranded wire exports accounted for approximately 67% of total exports, up 41% month-on-month and 80% year-on-year, while aluminum stranded wire made up 33%, with respective growths of 5% and 50%.

"Customs data showed that China's aluminum wire and cable exports reached 22,300 mt in August 2025, up 26.35% MoM and 69% YoY."

"China’s aluminium wire and cable exports rose to 23,000 tonnes in September 2025, up 3.1% MoM and 145% YoY."

Export Volume Trajectory

The cumulative exports from January through August 2025 totaled around 175,100 metric tons, reflecting a 36.85% increase from 135,000 metric tons in the same period in 2024. Projections for the full year suggest total exports will surpass the previous year's total, which was approximately 195,300 metric tons for 2024.

China's aluminum cable export surge in 2025 highlights strong global demand and strategic production scaling, marking a pivotal shift towards aluminum products in power and infrastructure sectors worldwide.
