MPs have stepped in to address the ongoing controversy surrounding Waverley's use of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which has been deemed "unfair" and "unintended".
The Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee has written to Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook to highlight cases of homeowners in Waverley and other areas being charged under the CIL regulations.
“It’s alarming to hear that some homeowners have been hit by unfair charges under the Community Infrastructure Levy regulations.
The committee's letter notes that residents have been hit with unexpected CIL bills for small home improvement projects, despite the levy originally being intended for large-scale developers.
