Top Universities in Canada 2026
According to a new report by Times Higher Education, the top universities in Canada have been ranked, along with their global standings.
The University of Toronto holds the top position, a spot it has maintained since at least 2011. McGill University and the University of British Columbia also continue to hold strong positions.
- University of Toronto: ranked 1st
- McGill University: ranked 2nd
- University of British Columbia: ranked 3rd
Times Higher Education’s 2026 Canada University Rankings features 34 universities in total, with McGill rising to 2nd place among Canadian universities.
The top 10 universities held the same ranks as compared to the 2025 ranking, with the exception of McGill and the University of British Columbia swapping places.
Rankings with “=” signal that a university is tied with one or more other institutions.
