Civilians in Chicago are taking matters into their own hands, tailing officers, guarding stores, and patrolling neighborhoods.
A recent incident in the East Side of Chicago, a working-class Latino and Black community, escalated into a protest. A car chase ended in the neighborhood, involving federal agents pursuing a car driven by an alleged undocumented immigrant.
According to eyewitnesses, residents like Pauly came out to check on the commotion, and more federal agents arrived. Pauly found three metal containers on his street, including
- a tear-gas canister
- a smoke-grenade can
- a pepper-ball projectile round
