Universal Pictures is preparing to revive one of its most popular action-adventure franchises with a new Mummy installment. According to multiple sources, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are in talks to reprise their iconic roles from the hit films of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence are set to helm the project, working from a screenplay by David Coggeshall, known for The Family Plan and The Deliverance. Producing duties fall to veteran franchise producer Sean Daniel, with William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment also on board.
“Reps for Universal Pictures declined to comment, and plot details for the new film are under wraps,” Deadline reports.
The film represents another collaboration between Radio Silence and Project X Entertainment, who previously joined forces on the Scream reboot series. Their partnership has produced several successful horror projects, including Ready or Not: Here I Come for Searchlight Pictures.
Fraser and Weisz first starred together in The Mummy (1999) and its sequel The Mummy Returns (2001), both directed by Stephen Sommers. The two films collectively grossed more than $400 million worldwide and remain among Universal’s most successful reimaginings of its early 20th-century monster classics.
