Geno Smith, quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, faced criticism even after returning from a "dirty hit" during Thursday's game against the Denver Broncos. Smith was sacked up to five times in the first half and went down awkwardly following a tackle by Broncos' Nik Bonitto, seeming to injure his leg during a scramble.
After leaving the field, Smith spent time in the medical tent before testing his knee on the sideline, jogging lightly as trainers evaluated him. Despite the injury, he returned to play as the Raiders trailed by three points.
Nik Bonitto, who delivered the tackle, simply observed after Smith's injury.
With Smith sidelined, Kenny Pickett took over as quarterback. Pickett is currently the only fully healthy QB on the roster. Other options include Cam Miller on the practice squad and Aidan O’Connell on injured reserve.
The Raiders gambled on Smith’s veteran experience to stabilize their offense this offseason, but inconsistency has plagued him through the first half of the year. Coming into the Broncos game, the Raiders held a 2-6 record.
“Take Geno Smith out of the game, please,” a fan posted on social media.
