The NHS has issued an urgent call for flu vaccinations, with England’s top nurse emphasizing the importance of getting protected now. Only weeks remain before the peak of the flu season, which typically worsens in winter.
Eligible adults are encouraged to get their flu jab promptly to ensure full protection before the seasonal rise in flu cases. This year, flu cases have appeared over a month earlier than usual, with numbers currently triple compared to the same period last year.
Allison Cannon, Chief Nursing Officer for NHS Sussex, shared her perspective after receiving her flu vaccine:
“The flu vaccination is the best possible way to protect yourself and your loved ones against flu as we move into the winter months.
It’s a quick and painless injection and it really will help you keep yourself and your family well through winter.”
Since the flu vaccine rollout began, NHS teams nationwide have administered over 13 million doses (13,299,775). In Sussex, 428,297 people have been vaccinated, representing 43.7% of those eligible.
Summary: The NHS emphasizes immediate flu vaccinations to curb an early and severe flu season, urging eligible individuals to protect themselves and others before winter’s peak.
