Toyota has introduced the all-new ninth-generation Hilux, featuring an electric variant for the first time, alongside traditional diesel and upcoming hydrogen versions. This marks a significant evolution of the legendary pickup in line with Toyota’s multi-pathway carbon neutrality plan.
The new Hilux was unveiled in Bangkok, Thailand, showcasing a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) version with advanced capabilities. This modern upgrade preserves the pickup's rugged reputation while adding a futuristic powertrain option.
The BEV prototype measures 5,320 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,085 mm. Its battery pack is positioned under the floor, optimizing balance and maximizing cabin space.
Toyota stated the new Hilux EV "isn’t just a green version of the Hilux — it’s still capable of doing what Hilux owners expect it to do."
The electric Hilux is scheduled for a 2026 launch across Asia, with a hydrogen variant planned to follow shortly.
The Toyota Hilux takes a bold step towards electrification with a capable new EV model that maintains the pickup’s durability while advancing Toyota’s carbon-neutral goals.
