All-New Toyota Hilux Debuts Globally With All-Electric Powertrain

Toyota has unveiled the ninth generation of the Hilux pickup, marking the first time the model is offered with an all-electric powertrain. The automaker also confirmed plans for a hydrogen fuel-cell electric version, scheduled for release in 2028. Alongside the electric model, Toyota continues to provide the proven 2.8-litre diesel engine combined with a 48V mild-hybrid system.

Design and Exterior Updates

The new-generation Hilux receives a comprehensive design transformation, aligning it closely with the latest Toyota Land Cruiser SUV. The front fascia features sleek LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights and a bold closed grille with the prominent “TOYOTA” lettering at the center.

The rugged front bumper design stands out with its muscular proportions, silver detailing, and integrated LED fog lamps. From the side, the Hilux retains its characteristic dual-cab silhouette and flatbed layout, now complemented by aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels and a charging port on the front fender for the electric variant.

Rear Styling

At the rear, the pickup showcases vertically arranged C-shaped LED taillights paired with a black bumper. Distinctive details include the large “TOYOTA” badge across the tailgate and a high-mounted stop lamp above the handle, enhancing visibility and style.

“Toyota has pulled the wraps off the ninth-generation Hilux, now offered with an all-electric powertrain for the first time.”
