Australia, seven-time champions, saw their impressive ICC Women’s World Cup run come to an end in a stunning semifinal loss to India last week in Navi Mumbai. Harmanpreet Kaur and her team went on to clinch their first-ever World Cup title.
Back home, captain Alyssa Healy shared her reflections on the match and the tournament. She acknowledged the disappointment but remained optimistic about the future.
“At the end of the day, after seven weeks of a long tour, we played some incredible cricket but didn’t quite get over a certain Indian hurdle, I suppose you’d say. So, disappointing in that regard, but I’m looking forward to seeing what this team can do over this next cycle because it’s really exciting.”
Healy praised the team’s performance during the tournament and noted how competitive they had become.
“(We are) playing some amazing cricket and teams are having to keep up to knock us off, which I think is really cool.”
She also congratulated India on their achievement and reflected on the global impact.
“Obviously I haven’t watched the final but India got themselves over the line which is really cool, and it’s great for the global game.”
Though disappointed, Healy accepted the outcome.
“From that perspective it was an amazing experience but obviously sitting here a little bit disappointed and it’ll haunt me for a little while that one, but that’s ok.”
Australia set a formidable total of 338 in the semifinal, a massive effort by any measure. However, Healy admitted they could have scored more runs and left opportunities on the board.
Alyssa Healy reflects candidly on the Australian team’s hard-fought semifinal loss to India, embracing the disappointment while staying positive about the future potential of her squad.
