Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day Message

This Sunday, 9 November, marks Remembrance Sunday, honoring the service and sacrifice of British and Commonwealth military and civilian personnel in both World Wars and subsequent conflicts.

The observance continues with Armistice Day on Tuesday, 11 November, when the Royal British Legion will hold a two-minute silence at 11 a.m. to mark the end of World War One.

Message from the Chair of the Council

Caroline Leaver, Chair of the Council, stated:

“For many, Remembrance is closely linked to the fallen of the First and Second World Wars, to whom we owe an immense debt of gratitude. This year also marks the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, VJ Day, and the Battle of Britain — three pivotal moments in the narrative of World War Two.”
“Although warfare has evolved in some ways, the core tragedy of war remains unchanged. Amid global unrest, it's vital to remember those who served in more recent conflicts such as the Falklands, Iraq, and Afghanistan.”
“We are profoundly grateful for the dedication of our serving personnel, emergency responders, and the families who support them, who work every day to keep us safe.”

Author's summary: This message emphasizes honoring veterans from all conflicts while recognizing the ongoing sacrifices of service members and their families worldwide.
