Born February 3, 1933, in Newport, Rhode Island, to Charles Stewart Jestings Sr. and Christie Gertrude Jestings, Walter cherished his family’s birthplace deeply.

- Children: Jeff Jestings, Joanna Phillips (Dan Phillips), April Brown (late Kevin Brown)
- Grandchildren: Madison Collins (John Collins), Alexandria Brown, Dezmond Brown, Luke Phillips
- Great-grandchildren: Walter, Ollie, and Cormac Collins, affectionately calling him Grandpa Wallet and Popqua
- Many nieces and nephews in Newport and beyond
Career
Walter graduated at the top of his class from the University of Rhode Island and devoted his career to civil engineering and bridge design, ultimately serving as Chief of the Bridge Bureau. He was respected by all for his fairness, respectfulness, and unmatched work ethic.
Personal Life
Walter was happily married to his hometown sweetheart, Sallye Ann Kendall, for 47 years until her passing in 1996. Their lives took them from Newport, RI to Columbus, OH, and finally Atlanta, GA.
